Sync Shutter

Get Help

For bug reports, feature requests, or general questions, use the Send Feedback form built into the app. On Mac it is under Settings → About; on iPhone and iPad it is at the bottom of Settings. The form sends through iCloud, so the device needs to be signed in to iCloud. If sending fails, Copy My Feedback keeps your text so nothing is lost.

Nothing happens when I insert a card (Mac)

Sync Shutter lives in the menu bar. Click its icon: an inserted card appears under SD Cards, and a backup that ran shows in History. Automatic backup starts only for cards with a DCIM folder or a known camera layout; any other card can still be copied whole with Backup Now.

If the app reports that it is not allowed to read the card, macOS has not granted access to removable volumes. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders, find Sync Shutter, and turn on Removable Volumes.

My SD card isn't detected

Make sure the card is properly inserted. On Mac, check that the volume appears in Finder. Sync Shutter looks up to two folder levels deep for your camera's DCIM folder, and also recognises the video folders Sony, Panasonic, and Canon cameras use outside DCIM. On iPhone or iPad, use a Lightning or USB-C card reader and pick the card in the Import tab.

The app says the card was not recognised

The card holds photos or videos but none of them are in a folder a camera would write. On Mac, choose the card under SD Cards and use Backup Now to copy the whole card. Please also send feedback with the camera model so the layout can be added.

Backup says Incomplete or Failed

The completion screen and the notification name the destination that did not receive files. The usual cause on Mac is a destination folder that was typed into Settings rather than picked: macOS only lets the app write to folders you chose in the file dialog. Open Settings, and re-pick the folder with Choose. Cloud destinations that were offline are queued and retried when the connection returns.

Where are my backups stored?

Wherever you turned on in Settings: a local folder, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Photos, or the Lightroom auto-import folder on Mac; the Photos library or a folder in Files on iPhone and iPad; and with Sync Shutter Pro, a NAS or server over S3 or SFTP. Photos go directly from the card to those destinations. Nothing passes through our servers.

Cloud sign-in isn't working

Ensure you have an internet connection and try signing out and back in from Settings. If the issue persists, send feedback through the app.

Sync Shutter Pro

Pro is a single purchase that unlocks Mac, iPhone, and iPad under the same Apple ID. If a device does not show Pro after buying, open the Pro section in Settings and use Restore Purchases.
